Benjamin Rogers was born at Charlottetown in 1875, of Welsh nationality, his father having (when a boy) immigrated to this Island from Carniarthen, Wales.

Educated at the local Public Schools and Prince of Wales College, he later entered Bishop Ridley College at St. Catherines, Ontario, after which he identified himself with his father in the extensive hardware business of Rogers Hardware Co. Ltd. From this business he retired at a later date.

He was elected Civic Alderman in 1904 and reelected in 1906 and 1908, and in 1910 was awarded the higher honour of election to the Mayoralty Chair.

Promptly on acquiring the requisite age he applied and was received into Masonry in Victoria Lodge No. 2, in 1896, following with the Royal Arch in 1897, and Knight Templarism in 1898. He made the pilgrimage across the hot sands in Karnak Temple, Montreal, in 1900. In the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite he received the degrees, 140, and became a charter member of Albert Edward Lodge of Perfection at its formation in 1896. He received the Rose Croix Chapter degrees, 18 degree in 1916, and the Consistory to the 30 degree in 1917.

He was Worshipful Master of Victoria Lodge in 1902 and Presiding Preceptor of Prince Edward Preceptory in 1911.

He was appointed Grand Representative of the Grand Lodge of Scotland in 1903.

In the Grand Lodge he was elected Junior Grand Warden in 1914, Senior Grand Warden in 1915, Deputy Grand Master in 1916 and Grand Master in 1917.
