Most Worshipful Brother
Donald B. Judson, PGM
Grand Lodge of
Prince Edward Island, A.F. & A.M.;
Grand Master 1999 – 2000

Elected Grand Master of Masons of Prince Edward Island on June 12, 1999, MW Bro. Judson was born and raised in Alexandra, P.E.I. and received his early education in a one room school house in that community. He attended Prince of Wales College, Charlottetown, Dalhousie University, Halifax, and St. Dunstan’s University, Charlottetown, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree.

He began his working life as a fisherman, then turned to farming and the operation of Sprucedale Farms in the Community of Alexandra, east of Charlottetown, where he served as Chairman of the Community Council during its 200th Anniversary. But his primary occupation became public service with the P.E.I. Department of Fisheries, from which he retired after 33 years in 1997.

Brother Judson was Initiated, Passed and Raised in Mizpah Lodge No. 17, Eldon, P. E. I. in 1978. Elected there as Worshipful Master in 1982, he then continued to serve that Lodge as Secretary for ten years, while also accepting appointments and elections to successive Grand Lodge offices over a thirteen year span.

As Grand Master during the Grand Lodge’s 125th Anniversary year, M.W.Bro. Judson initiated several ambitious projects which resulted that year, or soon following, in creation of a Memorial Cairn at Eldon bearing tablets inscribed with descriptions of all the concordant and related Masonic activities within the jurisdiction; a Masonic Library and Museum in Charlottetown; and a new consolidated History of every Masonic body ever active in Prince Edward Island (“The Pattern Set For Us”, by R.W.Bro. George Doughart).

He has also been active in both the Scottish Rite and York Rite, serving as presiding officer in Albert Edward Lodge of Perfection and in Gordon L. Bennett Chapter Rose Croix (formerly St. Lawrence Chapter) in Summerside, and as a member of Nova Scotia Consistory in Halifax and the Royal Order of Scotland.

He was also elected to preside in Alexandra Chapter No. 11 of Royal Arch Masons and in Prince Edward Preceptory No. 35 of Knights Templar, and has held membership in Garden of the Gulf Council No. 9 of Royal & Select Masters and Royal Island Conclave No. 28 of the Red Cross of Constantine, all based in Charlottetown.

Further, Bro. Judson has served as Worthy Patron in Crystal Chapter No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star, Charlottetown, on two occasions.

In 1982 he was made a Noble in Philae Temple, AAONMS, served on the Divan in 1992, and was elected Potentate in 1997 for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. He served as Secretary, Treasurer and President of the Island Shrine Club in Charlottetown, as well holding membership in the Red Oak Shrine Club in Kensington.

Don and his wife, Virginia, have raised two children, Dr. William Judson, D.D.S. (who has also joined the Fraternity), and Lisa Judson, M.B.A.
