The Most Worshipful the Grand Master, Fred I. Bell, was born at Carleton, Prince Edward Island on November 24, 1893, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Bell.
M.W. Bro. Bell received his education at Carleton School and Prince of Wales College, Charlottetown. After graduating from Prince of Wales College he taught school for a number of years, later becoming Principal of Cape Traverse School. Bro. Bell was also Principal of Tryon Consolidated School for several terms. Later he became a School Inspector for the Province of Prince Edward Island.
During the war of 1914-1918 Bro. Bell served Overseas in His Majesty’s Forces.
Upon his return to Canada he carried on a general merchandise and produce business at Carleton, moving to Summerside in 1945 to engage in the produce business. For the past two years he has been manager of the Prince Edward Island Potato Growers Association.
Most Worshipful Bro. Bell was united in marriage with Miss Bessie Linkletter of Union Corner in 1921. Their only daughter, Ferne, is a chemist at Naval Research Headquarters, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Bro. Bell is a member of the United Church of Canada and is a Past President of the Summerside Board of Trade.
In 1915 Bro. Bell was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in True Brothers Lodge No. 8
at Crapaud. Later he demitted to join Mount Moriah Lodge No. 15
at Cape Traverse and served as Worshipful Master of that Lodge in 1943. In the Grand Lodge of Prince Edward Island he has held all the offices from Junior Grand Warden up to his present position of Most Worshipful Grand Master. He is Grand Representative of the Grand Lodge of Utah near this Grand Lodge.
