WONDERING ABOUT BECOMING A FREEMASON?

Freemasonry is a fraternal organization composed of men of high moral values, from every race, religion, opinion and background who have reached the age of 21 and believe in a supreme being. Freemasonry teaches men to be tolerant of the beliefs of others, to be patriotic, law-abiding citizens, temperate in all things, to aid the unfortunate, to practice brotherly love, and to faithfully accept and discharge solemn obligations to each other, their families, communities, countries and the world in general. It aims to promote friendship, morality, and brotherly love among its members, who are brought together as brothers to develop and strengthen the bonds of friendship.

In short, Freemasonry is an organization of like-minded men who accept a lifestyle based on a universal system of morality dedicated to the self-improvement of its members and thereby contributing to the building of a better community.

STEPS TO BECOME A FREEMASON

STEP ONE:

The first step in order to become a Freemason, is to meet the following requirements:

• Be a man.
• Have a sound reputation, and be well-recommended by your peers.
• You must believe in a Supreme Being (we accept all religions but cannot accept atheists) and be of good moral character.
• Be over the age of 21 years

STEP TWO:

The second step is to fully understand the following and separate the hype from the truth:

Books, movies, television shows, and on line videos have perpetuated the notion that Freemasonry is a secret society with designs on taking over the world.

The truth is that Freemasons are not part of any such conspiracy.
People who attempt to join Freemasonry hoping to gain access to these kind of secrets or material gains are not approaching the fraternity with the right intentions and are wasting their effort.

STEP THREE:

The third step is to contact a Masonic Lodge or The Grand Lodge of PEI:

Contact a lodge secretary in your community (14 Masonic lodges from Central Kings county through Queens county to Western Prince county)

You can also fill out the contact form below or directly contact the Grand Lodge of Prince Edward Island by phone or email and you will be put in in contact with a lodge near you.

The Prince Edward Island Grand Lodge jurisdiction requires that potential members approach the brotherhood of their own free will and accord. You will not be directly asked or be invited to join a lodge.

STEP FOUR:

The fourth step is to undergo the lodge process.

Accept an invitation to meet informally with a couple of Masons of the lodge (who would potentially become your sponsors) and, if interested, petition the lodge for membership (they would provide you with an application form).

After your petition has been reviewed in a lodge meeting, you will be called for an interview with a group of (usually three) Freemasons who form an investigative committee.

You will be asked questions concerning your reasons for wanting to become a Freemason, your history, and your character. The committee may also want to meet with your partner (this inclusion is encouraged).

You (and your partner) will have the opportunity to ask questions about Freemasonry.

The investigative committee will spend some time investigating with regard to your character and suitability for membership.

The lodge’s members will vote at a lodge meeting on whether to accept you as a member.

If you are accepted, you will receive an invitation to become a member when the lodge confers an initiation ceremony.
