Reginald Ernest Kemp was born at Charlottetown Prince Edward Island, on October 2nd, 1908, the youngest son of the late M. W. Bro. (Capt.) Ernest and Mrs. Kemp. He received his education at West Kent School, and in 1925 entered the service of The Bank of Montreal, Charlottetown. In 1927 he resigned from the bank, and for over fourteen years held a position with the firm of DeBlois Brothers Limited. In 1942 Brother Kemp became associated with the firm of Carter & Co., Ltd., Wholesale Stationers, where he now holds the position of Secretary Treasurer, as well as being a Director and Shareholder.. He is also on the Board of Directors of The Peoples Cemetery Company.
Brother Kemp is a loyal member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church. He has served on the Vestry for a number of years, and for the past three years has been Church Secretary and Vestry Clerk. Last year he was commissioned as a Lay Reader.
Reg Kemps Masonic interests began when he petitioned St. Johns Lodge No. 1, Charlottetown, on October 2nd, 1929. He was Initiated on November 19th, Passed December 17th, and Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on January 23rd, 1930. He had the honor of being Initiated and Raised by his own Father. After serving in several of the subordinate offices he was elected and installed Worshipful Master of St. Johns Lodge in 1934. From 1935 to 1944 inclusive Brother Kemp held the office of Secretary.
M. W. Brother Kemp was exalted as a Royal Arch Mason in Alexandra Chapter No. 11 on May 8th, 1941, and at present holds the office of Excellent Scribe.
Knights Templar Orders were conferred upon him in Prince Edward Preceptory No. 35, K.T., Charlottetown, in 1945, and he now holds office in this Preceptory.
The first Grand Lodge office held by our present Grand Master was in 1938 when he was appointed Senior Grand Steward. Subsequently he was appointed Junior Grand Deacon 1939, Grand Lecturer 1941, Senior Grand Deacon 1942, elected Junior Grand Warden 1943, Senior Grand Warden 1944, Deputy Grand Master 1945, and in 1946 was elected to the Grand East. He has served as the Grand Representative of the M.W. Grand Lodge of Missouri near this Grand Lodge since 1936.
