Samuel Leaman Caseley, Grand Master of Masons in Prince Edward Island, son of William Henry Caseley and Margaret Hogg Caseley, was born March 4, 1911, at Kelvin, Prince Edward Island, where he attended the District School. He married Fern Clark, November 16, 1938, and from this happy union he has six children, Joan, Garth, an ordained Minister, whose charge is Cole Harbour United Church, near Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and Roger, Rowan, Wendell and Stuart. Joan, Garth and Roger are married and our Grand Master is very proud of his five grand children.
Grand Master Caseley attends the United Church, Kensington, P.E.I. He is a member of the Session and has been active on other committees local and Presbytery level.
He is a charter member of the Kensington Area Board of Trade and at the present time President of the Kensington Branch No. 9, Royal Canadian Legion. In world war two he served overseas with the 29th. Canadian Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment (South Alberta Regiment) with the rank of Lieutenant. He was decorated with the Military Cross in action at Hochwald Gap, Germany, and later attained the rank of Major. For long and meritorious service he was awarded the Efficiency Decoration.
Most Worshipful Brother Caseley was initiated into Mount Zion Lodge No. 12, Kensington, Prince Edward Island, on the first day of May, 1947, and installed Worshipful Master of the Lodge in 1953. After serving in a number of Grand Lodge Offices and on important committees he was elected and installed into the Grand East as Grand Master at the Ninety-fourth Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge held June 28, 1969. One of his other offices, of which he is very proud, is Grand Representative of the picturesque and delightful Grand Lodge of Tennessee, near the Grand Lodge of Prince Edward Island. He is a member of Prince Edward Chapter No. 12, Royal Arch Masons, Kensington. After serving as the Most Excellent High Priest of his Chapter he was appointed Grand Superintendent of District No. 5 of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Nova Scotia with jurisdiction over P. E. Island. He is a Knights Templar and holds the office of Constable in Prince Edward Preceptory No. 35, Charlottetown. He is an active member of Garden of the Gulf Council No. 9, Royal and Select Masters, Charlottetown.
In the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite he has held office in Albert Edward Lodge of Perfection, Valley of Summerside. The Grand Lodge of Prince Edward Island has made a wise selection in electing Samuel Leaman Caseley, Grand Master. With his experience in meeting people and his ability as a leader Masonry in Prince Edward Island has a wise guidance.
