Hector C MacDonald was born at Flat River in this province, in 1856, where he received his early education in the district school After two years in Prince of Wales College, Charlottetown he entered McGill University, Montreal, from which he graduated in 1881, with the degree of Bachelor of Arts, and in 1888 with Bachelor, of Civil Law.
Returning to Charlottetown, he read law in the office of McLean & Martinand was admitted an Attorney at Law in 1885, and called to the bar in 1888. He next took a course at the Royal School of Artillery at Quebec, securing a First Class Short Course Certificate. He then became a partner in the Law firm with whom he had studied; and in 1888 entered politics. For ten years he represented Belfast District, in the Provincial Legislature, being Attorney General 1897-99 and in 1898 was created a Queens Counsel. In 1899 he was elevated to the Bench as Metropolitan County Judge.
In Masonry he was raised in St. John’s Lodge No. 1, Charlottetown, May 12 1891. Exalted to the Royal Arch in Alexandra Chapter, No. 11, R N. S., March 12, 1808, Knighted in Prince Edward Preceptory. No. 85, Oct. 30,1906. In the A. & A. S. Rite he was made a Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret, 32 on Nov. 18, 1909, He was elected Senior Grand Warden 1909, Deputy Grand Master 1910 and Grand Master in 1911.
