The Lodge celebrated its Fiftieth Anniversary in 1977. Forty-three members and visiting Brethren attended Divine Service on June 26 in Glasgow Road Presbyterian Church. Bro. David Hamilton delivered the message. The families then had a lobster dinner in New Glasgow. The Worshipful Master in 1977 was Bro. Ian MacRae. The Anniversary Committee included W.Bro. Philip Matheson PM, W.Bro. Douglas MacDonald PM, W.Bro. Cyril Toombs PM, W.Bro. Ian MacRae, Bro. Willard Nicholson and Bro. Leith Dickieson. The mortgage was burned at the Ladies’Night Banquet in 1977.

The need to change Lodge Rooms became apparent in the 1970’s. The foundation of the building was eroding and highway construction in the area at that time intensified the problem. One member recalled hearing a strange noise under the building during one of the meetings. He later learned that one of the Brothers had been attempting to secure a post under the foundation. On December 5, 1972 the Brethren decided to seek a meeting with Government to try to secure a solution. Another committee was negotiating with Government for the purchase of Rennies Road School which had become vacant with school consolidation. The Lodge was also having discussions with the Athletic Council at the local high school to transfer ownership of the Hall and arrange to lease back space for the Lodge.

The decision to abandon the Hall was made in 1979. The Lodge Treasurer, W.Bro. Curtis Ford PM and W.Bro. Stewart Thompson PM did an inspection of the foundation and reported on June 5, 1979 that “it was not very favourable.” The Grand Lodge Visitation on October 26, 1979 was held in Wheatley River Hall. The last Regular Communication in the old Hall was on November 6, 1979. The application of W.Bro. David Smith was received at that meeting. The last Grand Lodge Visitation in the old Hall was on September 19, 1978 when M.W. Bro. Douglas MacDonald visited his Mother Lodge and an attendance of eighty-four was recorded.

The Lodge arranged temporary space in Wheatley River Hall for four months pending a settlement from the Department of Highways and a further discussion of the condition of the old Hall. On April 1, 1980 Prince of Wales Lodge met in the Masonic Temple in Charlottetown to confer the Master Mason Degree for Fellow Craft, David Smith and Gordon Carter. In May 1980 the Lodge met in the New Glasgow Fire Hall. A decision was made to rent the Wheatley River Hall for nine months while negotiations continued with Government and long-term options were considered.
